Why do Jubilee cakes cost more than the cakes at Harris Teeter or Costco?

Chain stores and even many commercial bakeries order cakes and tubs of icing that are mass-produced in a factory somewhere and then assembled in the store.  This means that they can offer cakes very inexpensively, but also that their cakes have been filled with preservatives and other processed ingredients to survive the trip across the country (that's also why they can sit on the counter for a week and still look exactly the same as they did the first day.)  Jubilee cakes are made by hand, from scratch, using real butter (no shortening), fresh eggs and milk and organic flour.  You'll taste the difference!

How should I store my cake?

Because Jubilee cakes have no preservatives, they need to be stored in the refrigerator.  We think they taste best at room temperature, so remove the cake from the fridge an hour to two hours before serving, place it on your serving tray (it's easier to move cakes without smudging the icing when they are cold) and keep it in a shady, room temperature spot until serving.  Jubilee cakes are usually baked and iced on the same day or the day before they are picked up, so they will stay fresh and tasting their best for 2-3 days in the refrigerator.

How far in advance do I need to order a cake?

Feel free to order as soon as you know you will need a cake for a certain date.  We have to cut off orders for a specific week when we have reached our capacity, so ordering early ensures that you can get the cake you want for the date you want.  Custom cakes should be ordered at least one week before pick-up.  If it is less than 48 hours before your event and you need a cake, please contact us.  We have a limited selection of last-minute cakes that can be ordered on short notice.
